Peggy Jordens studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (KCB) where she graduated with master degree in solo piano and chamber music (first Prize class of Daniel Blumenthal and Florent Van de Vondel) and piano accompaniment (class of Hélène Luyten). As a member of ‘Mellanium’ she participates in interdisciplinary productions focussed on piano and contemporary music. She collaborated among others with Awardt, Thomas More College and Circus Ronaldo. She gives piano classes and coordinates the piano department of the Conservatory of Mechelen.
Connie Van den Bergh graduated with master degree in piano and chamber music from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerpen (class of Pascal Sigrist and Stephen Collins). As a member of Mellanium she creates interdisciplinary productions in which piano and contemporary music have a central place. In the past Mellanium made coproductions with Awardt, Thomas More College and Circus Ronaldo. She teaches piano and chamber music at the Conservatory of Mechelen.
The Belgian born conductor Tom Van den Eynde (1980) studied classical guitar and orchestral conducting at the Conservatory of Maastricht and Rotterdam. Since he graduated Tom conducted many orchestras in Belgium and abroad such as the Flemish Symphony Orchestra (Belgium), Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra (Bulgaria), Brabant Orchestra and Dutch Promenade Orchestra (Netherlans), Orquestra Sinfonica del Vallès (Spain), Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Slovak State Orchestra of Zilina (Hungary). In 2004 he founded the Chamber Orchestra of Mechelen which he performed a wide range of repertoire (from early classical repertoire untill contemporary music). He also conducted a few opera’s like Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), La scala di seta (Rossini), Lo Speziale (Haydn) and La Traviata (Verdi). Since 2012 he is working as artistic dircetor of the Conservatory of Mechelen (Belgium).In 2020 he will make his debut at the famous Palau de la Musica in Barcelona where he will conduct the Christmas Oratorium of Pau Casals.
Carla Van Effeltaire is a pianist teaching at the Conservatory of Mechelen and Leuven. Since receiving her masters in music she has been collaborating with other musicians as well as participating in interdisciplinary projects such us with dance, theater, circus, and design. She often performs contemporary chamber-music for two pianos. She has performed music of Fitkin, Crumb, Stravinsky, Rzewsky, Reich, Kapustin, and Martinov among others. She mainly accompanies the percussion class at the conservatory of Mechelen and teaches also improvisation and practical harmony.
Joris Thys (Belgium, 1990) holds a Master of Music in classical percussion from Luca School of Arts, Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. As a freelance all-round percussionist, he worked on several musical shows as Oliver, Wizard of Oz, Spamalot, Mozart the musical, and played in many orchestras such as the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides or Il Novecento. With his band Jacle Bow, he recorded 2 albums (2017 and 2019) on the Warner Music Label, and did tours across Europe and the USA. Currently Joris is teaching percussion at the Conservatory of Mechelen, Belgium.
Nik Goovaerts was born in 1965. In 1981 he took the decision to pursue his humanity studies at the Brussels Kunsthumaniora (secondary school focussing on the arts), where he subsequently obtained a First Prize for Music Theory. In 1984 he completed his studies at this school and went on to deepen his knowledge of percussion music at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp. Here he was to be one of the last students of Mr Louis Cauberghs. After winning prizes for Percussion, Collaborative Music-making and Chamber Music, he commenced his teaching studies for each of these subjects. He had thus taken the step towards becoming a music teacher. Later he took up a post teaching percussion and chamber music at the Brussels Kunsthumaniora, followed by the music academies of Anderlecht, Halle and Schoten. Then in 1994 the opportunity arose to teach percussion, collaborative music-making and instrumental ensemble at the Municipal Conservatory of Mechelen, an opportunity he grasped with both hands. Under his aegis the percussion course flourished, resulting in an ever-increasing number of students. Currently there are as many as three percussion teachers in order to cope with the popularity of this course. In addition to teaching, Mr Goovaerts is also timpany player at the Brass Band Festival and conductor of the WIK Percussion Orchestra.
Alexandros Sarakenidis is one of the most promising young Greek pianists. He concertises in Greece and abroad as a soloist as well as in cooperation with chamber music ensembles and orchestras, such as the Athens State & Municipal Symphony Orchestras, the Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, the Brussels Virtuosi, the Estonian Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta, the Mechels Orkest, and with acclaimed artists such as the flutist Marc Grauwels and the pianist Alan Weiss. Alexandros has performed in the festivals, Les Mercredis de la Musique asbl, Le Festival des Midis aux Minimes, the Thessaloniki Piano Festival, the International Aegina Music Festival, the International Pireus Sinfonia Festival, the International classical music festival of Cyclades, among others.He has studied in Thessaloniki at State Conservatory and has completed higher piano studies at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia with the specialisation – piano instrumental performance. From 2011 to 2015, he studied with pianist Alan Weiss at LUCA-Arts, Leuven, Belgium. He graduated from LUCA-Arts obtaining highest post-graduate diploma with the highest distinction (summa cum laude). He has also studied with several leading artists, such as Sergio Tiempo, Naum Grubert, Milena Molova, Daniel Rivera, Lilia Boyadjieva, Michael Hauber, G. Hadjinikos, D. Toufeksis, S. Osokins, Katerina and Yanna Polyzoidou. Scholar of the Academy of Athens, Alexandros Sarkenidis has been awarded in numerous national and international competitions. In December 2017, he received the honorary prize of ‘Eleni Mykoniou’ of the prestigious Academy of Athens.
